Annealing Services & Softening Steel
This heat treating processes, typically done in an open atmosphere furnace at 1500F, is used to soften steels and cast iron to make them easier to machine, increase ductility and reduce its hardness, making it more workable. This process is also used to soften pre-hardened steels before they are heat treated to ensure that an accurate hardness is obtained. Are you unsure about whether you should use pre-hardened materials that are going to be heat-treated? Call Atlantic for their recommendations for the alloy that you are using. This process is also used for moulds that have been repaired by welding that need to be re-hardened before final polishing.
