Annealing
Annealing is a process in which we treat the steel up to 1500 degrees Fahrenheit, and slowly cool to room temperature. This makes the steel have high ductility and toughness while reducing hardness.
Carburization
Carburization is a process that sometimes is referred to as case hardening or case carburizing. The main purpose of this process is to improve the surface’s resistance to wear while keeping it tough and strengthened to the core.
Nitriding
Nitriding is used to create a case-hardened surface for metals. It’s typical applications include gears, crankshafts and other car parts, die-casting tools, forging dies, firearm components, plastic mold tools and more.
Tempering
The purpose of tempering steel is to ensure a metal can be equilibrated. The strength and hardness of the steel depends on the temperature in which this process is carried out. High temperatures result in low strength, low hardness and high ductility, while low tempering results in low ductility with high strength and hardness.
Stress Relieving
The stress relieving process is important in order to minimalize residual stresses in the steel and to reduce risk of dimensional changes. Stress relieving is typically done after heat treating but before adding the final finish to the application.
